Mr. Naeem Anwar is an international trade economist with over thirty-year experience of trade and tariff policy, foreign trade and commercial diplomacy.  He has three Masters’ degrees in Economics, Sociology and Development Economics including an M.Sc from University of London, UK. He attended and qualified a number of training courses on international trade and economics at various prestigious institutions including Bern University Switzerland, WTO HQ Geneva, UNESCAP Bangkok, WTO Advance Course on Antidumping from South Korea, Macroeconomic Analysis of national economy from NIBAF conducted by the World Bank and many other courses.

His experience in national trade and tariff policy formulation and execution includes 15 years’ with the National Tariff Commission as Director, Director General and Secretary during which he had been handling tariff and trade related issues of the indigenous industry and export sector. He was part of all exercises carried out by the Commission for rationalization and reforms of Pakistan Customs Tariff structure and had an opportunity to thoroughly examine and understand the industrial manufacturing processes of more than two hundred large and small industries of Pakistan. His nine years’ experience with the Ministry of Commerce as Deputy Secretary (Foreign Trade) and Minister (Trade) at Pakistan High Commission New Delhi provided huge exposure of international trade particularly the trade dynamics of South Asian countries. He had been a member of Pakistan’s trade negotiations team in finalizing the bilateral trade arrangements, Preferential Trade Agreements (PTAs) and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Iran, Turkey, EU etc besides multilateral trade agreements like ECOTA, SAFTA etc. Mr. Anwar had also represented Pakistan at various national and international events and on inter-ministerial committees. He has attended several, Workshops, Symposiums and Seminars at national and international level.

Mr. Naeem Anwar has widely travelled around the world in connection with trade parleys with various trading partners of Pakistan and to attend international trade events. He has successfully handled a spectrum of critical issues related to industrial policy, corporate governance, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
